Computational Biologist

ChordexBio

Part-time Open
📍 India / Remote 📅 Deadline: 03 Jun 2026

About This Position

ChordexBio is seeking a skilled and curious Bioinformatician to join our core team as a part-time, remote-first member supporting both our internal scientific initiatives and client-facing projects. This role is ideal for a scientist-engineer who thrives at the intersection of biology, computation, and applied problem-solving, and who is equally comfortable building pipelines, analyzing complex datasets, and communicating insights to diverse stakeholders.

In addition to hands-on bioinformatic work for ChordexBio and its clients, the successful candidate will contribute to teaching, mentorship, and training efforts for groups of learners through in-person or virtual sessions. This includes helping others build practical skills in bioinformatics, computational biology, data analysis, and reproducible research, reflecting the educational and outreach functions seen in modern bioinformatics consulting and training roles.

Note: This role combines internal bioinformatics delivery, client project support, and scientific training/mentorship.

Responsibilities

1. Design, develop, and maintain bioinformatic pipelines and workflows supporting ChordexBio internal projects, client deliverables, and scientific validation activities.
2. Perform analysis of biological datasets, including genomic, transcriptomic, proteomic, structural, or receptor-level data, depending on project and client needs.
3. Collaborate with internal teams, research consultants, and clients to translate biological questions into clear computational specifications and deliverables.
4. Support project scoping, method selection, timeline estimation, and interpretation of results for both internal stakeholders and external clients.
5. Ensure the scientific integrity of data models, annotations, and analysis outputs through rigorous biological and statistical review.
6. Develop and maintain documentation for pipelines, datasets, analytical methods, client reports, and computational workflows.
7. Contribute to the creation of scientific content, technical notes, training materials, and presentation materials for internal teams, clients, and learners.
8. Plan and deliver bioinformatics teaching, mentorship, and training sessions for groups of learners in both in-person and virtual formats.
9. Mentor junior staff, trainees, and learners through guided exercises, project feedback, and applied problem-solving support (whenever applicable).
10. Identify, evaluate, and integrate relevant public biological databases, reference datasets, and third-party tools into ChordexBio and client workflows.
11. Monitor emerging trends in bioinformatics, computational biology, and related fields and assess their relevance to ChordexBio offerings and client services.
12. Participate in cross-functional reviews, sprint planning, and scientific discussions to ensure biological accuracy is embedded throughout delivery.

Requirements

REQUIREMENTS:
1. Degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, Data Science, or a closely related discipline; Bachelor’s required, Master’s or PhD strongly preferred.
2. Proficiency in Python and/or R for biological data analysis, pipeline development, and statistical modeling.
3. Hands-on experience with bioinformatic tools and frameworks such as BioPython, Bioconductor, BLAST, GATK, DESeq2, Seurat, AlphaFold, or equivalent depending on specialization.
4. Familiarity with sequence analysis, structural biology, pathway analysis, multi-omics integration, or receptor/protein function modeling; depth in at least one domain is required.
5. Experience working with biological databases such as UniProt, NCBI, Ensembl, PDB, STRING, or similar resources.
6. Strong understanding of statistical methods applicable to biological data, including normalization, differential expression, dimensionality reduction, or survival analysis.
7. Comfortable working in a fully remote, collaborative environment using version control, cloud platforms, and shared computational infrastructure.
8. Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
9. Experience facilitating workshops, mentoring learners, or teaching technical topics is an advantage.
10. Ability to manage multiple priorities across internal projects, client engagements, and training commitments.
11. Strong familiarity with AI workflows, including tools/platforms developed by ChordexBio

QUALIFICATIONS:
You are an ideal candidate if you are or have experience as:
1. A bioinformatician or computational biologist with hands-on pipeline development and biological data analysis experience in academia or industry.
2. A molecular biologist or biochemist with strong programming skills who has transitioned into computational research.
3. A data scientist with a life sciences background and demonstrated experience applying machine learning or statistical modeling to biological questions.
4. A research associate or postdoctoral fellow with significant bioinformatic output, including publications, pipelines, datasets, or platform contributions.
5. A structural biologist, systems biologist, or multi-omics specialist looking to apply domain expertise in a product-driven and client-facing biotech environment.
6. An educator, trainer, or mentor with experience delivering scientific or technical learning sessions to groups.
